Being a Princess

Marty got started in the Party Princess business when her friend mentioned it to her. Since she was already a cosplayer, the job made sense. One day, she got the idea to start an Ask a Party Princess post in the forums at SomethingAwful.com [membership required], and started sharing stories, complete with illustrations! The post quickly went viral and started showing up in major media outlets like HuffPost.

She has since moved the discussion to her blog, How Wonderful!, where she posts stories, illustrations and videos!

Marty’s Patreon Page

Highlights from the Party Princess’ Patreon Page:

  • Incentives include answering viewer questions, exclusive video messages, and free customized princess videos!
  • Milestone goals include “Story With A Princess” videos, Fish Puppet fan mail, and Princess Music Video!

PP05: Marisa and Michael are creating Webcomic Underdogs

Get to know creative couple Michael Yakutis and Marisa Brenizer, who are creating a community for indie webcomic creators, Webcomic Underdogs.

About Marisa and Michael

Having spent the past four years in Washington state, Michael and Marisa have recently moved back to their home state of California with their dogs Bastion Gatsby and Caprio.

Michael has been a comic artist for some time and Marisa is a writer.

Comics

The couple got started collaborating on comics together when Marisa came up with an idea for a screenplay and then realized her boyfriend can draw comics. Together, they created their first joint webcomic, And To Be Loved. Since then, they have created several other webcomics, and are currently working on The Maidens.

Michael’s first introduction to webcomics was The Perry Bible Fellowship, which he describes as swinging between “vulgar and offensive while maintaining a level of lighthearted sweetness.” His other influences include Dave Sim and Alan Moore.

Marisa’s favorite comic is Pandyland, a gag-a-day comic she describes as “deliciously weird and hilarious.” Her other comic influences include Ghost World and Betty and Veronica!

Webcomic Underdogs

Webcomic Underdogs began as a Facebook group in 2013, but the active community outgrew the social network and expanded into it’s own website, featuring discussion boards, resources and featured artists.

They’re currently organizing local chapters, including meet-ups along the west coast. They are also developing a podcast for the community, as well.

The Webcomic Underdogs Patreon Page

Because their current contributions to  the Webcomic Underdogs community take up much of their time, Marisa and Michael are holding off on listing incentives and milestones on their Webcomic Underdogs Patreon Page. Instead, they’re making careful decisions about how they spend their time and energy commitments, and are simply allowing those who enjoy what they’re doing  to support them through Patreon.

A conversation with Ethan Nicolle, who is creating Bearmageddon, a webcomic about mutant bears taking over the world!

During the interview, I make a failed reference to The Chris Farley Show. Here’s what I was talking about:

About Ethan

Ethan is a cartoonist and writer. His other projects include ChumbleSpuzz, VeggieTales in the Houseand, most famously, Axe Cop. Ethan is recently married, and says he finds being a husband and step-father much more fulfilling than the overnight success he has experienced.

Cartooning

Ethan talks about his experience seeing Axe Cop go viral, his making the switch from print comics to web, and some of his early comic influences.

Bearmageddon

“A slacker zombie movie–with bears!”

Ethan originally created Axe Cop with his brother as a fun way to test the webcomic waters for his passion project, Bearmageddon.

Bearmageddon is an online graphic novel telling the story of a few friends and a mysterious outdoorsman fighting to survive in a world that has been overrun by bears!

Ethan’s favorite Bearmageddon moments so far:
